Postgraduate Prospectus (2015) of Jinan University
for International Students Studying in China
under University Program of Chinese Government Scholarship
In 2015, Jinan University offers Chinese government scholarships to international students undertaking postgraduate research study for Master’s and Doctoral degrees. The assessment of applications is based on academic merit, research capability and significant publication record, the detailed requirements as follows:
I. Accepted subject areas
Jinan University is a comprehensive university with a complete range disciplines in liberal arts, science, engineering and medicine. It offers 61 doctoral degree granting programs and 216 master granting programs for the international students starting postgraduate courses. II. Program Scheme and Duration
1. Program Scheme is full-time.
2. 2-3 years for a Master of Academic Degree or Professional Degree and 3 years for a Doctor of Academic Degree. The extended duration is no longer than 5 years for master degree programs and 7 years for doctoral degree programs.
III. Eligibility
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid foreign passport and be in good health and abide by Chinese laws and regulations and the university’s regulations.
2. Applicants for master program must have bachelor’s degree and those for doctoral program must have master’s degree.
3. Applicants’ academic merits, research capability and language ability must meet the admission requirements of the chosen program.
4. This scholarship is not available for the fresh university graduates from mainland China.
IV. Application deadline
Time for Jinan University’s receipt of application for postgraduate courses is from Dec 15, 2014 to May 10, 2015. All printed copies of application documents must be submitted to:Room 406, Administration Building of Jinan University, No.601 Huangpu Road West, Tianhe District, Guangzhou, China.
V. Application Procedure
1. Register and finish the online application at the CSC Online Application System for International Students, submit online and print a hard copy of a completed Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship during the period from Dec 15, 2014 to May 10, 2015. The CSC Online Application System for Study in China is available on http //www.csc.edu.cn.
2. Mail all the required application documents to Admission Office of Graduate School of Jinan University.
3. The Admission Office of Graduate School will conduct basic procedures for qualification. The application materials of applicants who meet the requirements will be sent to the graduate admission offices of the designated schools or departments which will conduct comprehensive procedures for qualification based on applicants’ former university, specialty, academic capability, personal behavior and the potentiality in applied field.
IV. Application documents
Applicants must fill in and provide the following documents truly, correctly and completely.
1. Application Form with photo attached for Chinese Government Scholarship (in Chinese or English). Print the Form after registration on http //www.csc.edu.cn.
2. Notarized highest diploma (original in Chinese or English). Fresh graduates provide the certificate of expected graduation.
3. Academic transcripts of all undergraduate or postgraduate courses (notarized photocopy in Chinese or English).
4. Personal statement (including research proposal), about 800 words for master’s degrees and about 1500 words applicants for doctorate degrees, in Chinese language. The personal statement shall include personal study, working experience, academic research results, research plan for master or doctoral degree and personal development objectives after graduation, etc.
5. Two recommendation letters from two professors or associate professors (or equivalent staff). The originals shall be in Chinese or English (with the referrer’s signature and contact).
6. Originals of language (Chinese or English) examination transcripts or notarized copies;
1) Applicants who apply for Chinese-taught courses have to provide valid HSK Certificate (Score 190 or above in New HSK4 or HSK5). If you have got a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree from Chinese universities and the courses you selected are taught in Chinese, you don’t need to summit the HSK certificate. Scholarship recipients of Chinese-taught programs without adequate Chinese language proficiency must take Chinese language training courses for one to two years in College of Chinese Language and Culture of Jinan University after enrollment.
2) Non-English speaking Applicants who apply for English-taught courses have to submit the TOFEL certificate (Score 90 or above) or IELTS certificate (Score 6.5 or above). SIMBA and China Studies program courses at our University are all taught in English.
7. Photocopy of a valid ordinary passport.
8. Academic achievements: enclose the content and abstract of the research papers you have published or other original research results if you have.
VII. Admission and Enrollment
1. The Admission Office of Graduate School will issue the admission list before the end of May 2015 in accordance with the verification results from the designated schools and departments.
2. The Admission Office of Graduate School will deliver the Admission Letter, Visa Application for Study in China and relevant documents at the end of July, 2015.
VIII. Intended Time of Enrollment
The intended time of Enrollment is the beginning of Sept 2015. Please see the Letter of Admission for the exact date. Accepted applicants should complete the enrollment formalities within the specified time.
IX. Scholarship
1. Chinese Government Scholarship Program
It is established by MOE in accordance with educational exchange agreements or MOUs (memorandum of understanding) signed between Chinese government and governments of other countries, organizations, education institutions and relevant international organizations to provide both full scholarships and partial scholarships. Applicants shall apply to China Scholarship Council (http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua/scholarshipen.aspx) for the scholarship through dispatching authorities, institutions or Chinese embassy (or General Consulate) in the applicant’s country.
2. Chinese Government Special Scholarship Program (University Postgraduate Program, Cooperative Program with Provinces and Autonomous Regions, Sino-US Cultural Exchange Program Scholarship)
It is a full scholarship program set up by MOE aiming to support the key Chinese universities to recruit international students undertaking postgraduate research study for Master’s and Doctoral degrees in China. Applicant shall apply to Jinan University after registration on China Scholarship Council. The scholarship is only available to excellent international students not currently studying in China.
Scholarship recipients will be granted a fee waiver of tuition, free on-campus dormitory accommodation, Comprehensive Medical Insurance and a living allowance (CNY 1,700 per month for master’s students and CNY 2000 per month for doctoral students).
X. Degree Awarding
Scholarship recipients who complete all the studies within the prescribed length of schooling and meet all the requirements for graduation will be granted with a Master's degree or a Doctoral degree and Certificates of Graduation of Jinan University.
